Benewah Community Hospital

For more than 50 years Benewah Community Hospital has been providing high quality healthcare to individuals, families and visitors in St. Maries, Benewah, Shoshone and Kootenai counties. We are a 19-bed Critical Access Hospital, offering our patients a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic services providing high quality care in a rural setting. Our administration and staff are dedicated to providing you with excellent care, and as our guest, you will find our staff courteous, respectful and enthusiastic.

Benewah Community Hospital is proud to announce the opening of its East Tower, which is part of a $28.5 million renovation and expansion project. The renovations include a new enlarged family practice and specialty practice clinic, new larger patient rooms with private baths, 50 new parking spaces, an expanded emergency department, a more spacious and updated physical therapy department, and more.The expansion provides 54,000 square feet of new space.

Benewah Community Hospital’s Emergency Room is fully staffed, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. All ER physicians are Board Certified with Advanced Life Support training in trauma, cardiac and pediatrics.

Valley Vista Care Center

Valley Vista Care Services offers a variety of long-term care options for seniors and the disabled of the area, including a 70-bed care center, 16-bed assisted living cottage care as well as an assortment of home care options. Valley Vista at this time, also offers the only state-approved Behavior Management program for residents with special behavior needs such as Alzheimer’s and Huntington disease. Valley Vista Care Corporation is a locally owned and operated, non-profit, Christian organization dedicated to delivering the highest quality care possible.

St. Maries Volunteer Community Clinic

A Community Supported Health Clinic, St. Maries Volunteer Community Clinic provides care for serious and chronic health problems for individuals of limited financial means within the St. Maries, Idaho area. The Clinic is a non-profit, 501(c)3 Corporation that was established in September, 2000.

St. Maries residents, and those in the surrounding area, without health insurance, Medicaid, Medicare or the ability to pay for health care are eligible for Clinic services.
We are unable to provide care for: cuts, broken bones, mental illness, pregnancy, vision exams, dental care, testing for STD’s, immunizations or family planning. We will make every attempt to provide you with community resources for these concerns.

HOURS OF THE CLINIC: Open every Monday evening from 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm on a “first come, first served basis” and closed on major holidays.

LOCATION: The Clinic is held at Panhandle Health District, 711 Jefferson Ave., St. Maries.

COST: The Clinic operates with a volunteer staff of medical professionals and office workers. As a patient, you will be asked to donate a minimal amount for your care. Donations range from $1.00 to $10.00 based on your gross income. Assistance with medication, diagnostic tests and counseling is available by referral from our medical care providers.

St. Maries and the Benewah County area are blessed with an excellent rural health care system.  St. Maries Family Medicine is a Rural Health Clinic located at 229 S 8th Street, St. Maries, ID.  Our highly skilled clinic staff includes Family Practice physicians, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistants, and numerous Consulting Physicians from Spokane and Coeur d’Alene. St. Maries Family Medicine providers are available Monday-Friday, 8:00am until 5:00pm.  Appointments are preferred, but walk-ins are welcome and are worked in as time allows. Phone: (208) 245-2591.

Three highly-trained and qualified dentists practice full time in St. Maries and an orthodontist visits frequently. An optometrist runs the local eye clinic on a full-time basis. The St. Maries area is served by well-trained ambulance crews and quick response units. When necessary, provisions have been made for helicopter transportation to larger medical facilities approximately 20 minutes flight time away.

There is a full-service pharmacy in St. Maries, a Home Health service and a local Hospice. Also serving the community are two chiropractors.

Unique to Benewah County is the willingness of all providers to work together to assure better patient care. Area physicians have consolidated with the hospital to reduce costs, improve quality and establish more services. All health care providers in the county have been invited to be a part of Benewah Health Services Corporation, an entity whose whole function is to encourage collaborative activities.

Utilizing the motto “Together We Care For You” the health care providers of Benewah County are a strong professional and economic asset to the area. The rapid developments in health care during recent years are a testament to what can be done when all providers are headed in the same direction.
